It's easy to think of pirates in grand, glamorous, adventurous terms thanks to the way they're often depicted in movies. Pirates in the real world, however, aren't nearly as sexy. The scenarios they present, however, can be just as riveting. And that brings us to A Hijacking, hitting theaters in New York and California on June 21 before expanding around the country in the coming weeks.
Written and directed by Tobias Lindholm (The Hunt), A Hijacking takes a realistic approach to modern-day piracy. It's about a cargo ship that's seized by Somali pirates while crossing the Indian Ocean. What follows is an intense showdown between the captured crew and the Somali pirates as they make ransom demands with the shipping company's CEO on the other side of the world.
We've got an exclusive clip from the film to share with you that gives you a brief look at one of the film's initial ransom scenes, which gives a real human face to an unthinkable scenario that surprisingly still does exist in modern times.
Magnolia Pictures opens A Hijacking in New York and California on June 21. Check the film's full release schedule to find out when it's coming to a theater near you.
