Warrior and Animal Kingdom star Joel Edgerton — who recently appeared in the remake of John Carpenter's classic,The Thing — is in talks for a part in the 300 sequel, Battle of Artemisia. The action vehicle is based on Zack Snyder's script — which he co-wrote with Kurt Johnstad — and is being directed by Noam Murro (Smart People), inspired by Frank Miller's upcoming graphic novel. If Edgerton takes on the role in the highly stylized film, the actor would play Themostocles — an Athenian general who was considered a hero, particularly amongst the lower class echelon.
Themostocles also led the Athenian navy to victory during the titular battle with the Persians. After bulking up for Warrior, Edgerton certainly has the kind of stature to play a proud, ambitious military leader. There's a darker side to Themostocles, however, that seems to come into play during his political dealings. He was apparently a bit of a traitor. Can the Aussie actor play a Greek general convincingly enough for you? And can he properly fill Gerard Butler's (who's also said to have a small role in the sequel) shoes?
