Ever since The Simpsons Movie took the world by storm a few years back, folks have been itching for the animated series to make a return to the big screen despite the fact that the TV show just doesn't seem as relevant as it once was. Still, though, it forges on, and while 20th Century Fox has not announced a follow-up film, they have decided to release a Simpsons short in front of Ice Age: Continental Drift on July 13th.
This isn't the first time The Simpsons have partnered with an Ice Age film as The Simpsons Movie was first teased via trailer in front of Ice Age: The Meltdown. This time they're returning to the Ice Age franchise -- and giving Pixar a run for their money -- with a short called The Longest Daycare, which will mark the first time The Simpsons will hit the big screen in 3D.
Will they use this short to announce a new movie? Will they use this short to announce new shorts? Will they use this short to announce anything? Who knows, but creating Simpsons-related shorts to play in front of various 20th Century Fox movies might just be a way to give this show the boost it feels like it needs right now.
