After an arduous shooting schedule and a delay that threatened to kill the project for good, The Lone Ranger is totally locked in for a July 3 release – and to celebrate that, we’ve got the newest trailer for your perusal.
Yahoo! scored the exclusive first look at the new clip, which finds Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp teaming up in a wild Western adventure. The trailer showcases Gore Verbinski’s eye for big-budget visuals, and has more than a few nods to his and Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, so fans of those films should be pleased.
It’s hard to judge too much based on a trailer, but given what we’ve seen we like the idea of Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger. We weren’t entirely convinced this casting was going to work at first, but Hammer has the swagger of a Lone Ranger, and enough comedic chops to hold his own in the lighter moments. We’re still not sold on Depp as Tonto – but maybe it will all work out in the finished film.
