The Lego Movie: The Second Part

Five years have passed since the events in the animated smash-hit The Lego Movie. Construction worker Emmet Brickowski (voiced by Chris Pratt) still thinks everything is awesome! Yet his friend Lucy (voiced by Elizabeth Banks) is far more somber, talking about a "new life that has hardened and toughened us all."

The new trailer for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part shows us a dangerous new threat that could spell doom for the citizens of Bricksburg. Of course, Emmet won't let that happen -- or will he, inadvertent as that might be? Read everything we now know about the animated sequel and then watch the new trailer below.

Who stars in the voice cast?

Chris Pratt (as Emmet Brickowski) and Elizabeth Banks (as Lucy) lead the voice cast. Will Arnett (Batman), Nick Offerman (Metal Beard), Charlie Day (Benny) and Alison Brie (Unikitty) are also reprising their voice roles. Tiffany Haddish voices a new, key character, known as Queen Watevra-Nabi, while Stephanie Beatriz and Arturo Castro will voice new characters Sweet Mayhem and Ice Cream Cone, respectively.

What's it about?

The citizens of Bricksburg "are facing a huge new threat," according to the official synopsis. Specifically, that means "Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild. The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the Lego universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are."

Who wrote the screenplay?

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. They directed The Lego Movie as well as the animated hit Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. They also helmed the live-action comedies 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.

Who is directing?

Mike Mitchell. He's directed live-action films (Sky High) as well as animated adventures (Shrek Forever After, Trolls). Trisha Gum is the animation director.

When can we see it?

Warner Bros. has scheduled The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part for theatrical release on February 8, 2019.
