'The Iceman' Trailer: Michael Shannon Keeps the Bloody Hits Coming

Michael Shannon in The Iceman

Mafia hit man Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski has been dead for over six years, but after watching this new trailer for a film based on his life, we can’t help but wonder what he’d have to say about the clip and the fact that his exploits were the basis for a movie. Given that Kuklinski seemed to adore the spotlight, we’re guessing he’d be pleased.

Michael Shannon stars as the killer in the film – playing a cold-blooded Mob assassin who claims to have murdered 100 people in his career (it should be noted that some experts doubt the veracity of those claims) while living a relatively normal family life in a suburban neighborhood. Kuklinski first gained national attention as the subject of two separate HBO documentaries and has been the focus of several books as well.

The new film looks more interested in taking Kuklinski’s tales as gospel if the trailer is to be believed – The Iceman features a whole lot of killing in its two-and-a-half minute run time.

Whether or not it sticks to history is mostly irrelevant to us because Michael Shannon seems to have nailed the character. He may not be as huge as the real-life killer (Kuklinksi was reportedly 6’5” tall and weighed 300 pounds), but Shannon has done an amazing job mimicking his voice and speech patterns.

The rest of the cast (including James Franco, Chris Evans, and Ray Liotta as Mob boss Roy DeMeo) is equally impressive and we’re more excited to see the film after checking out this new trailer.

The Iceman is scheduled to appear at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival. No wide release date has yet been announced. Take a look at the new trailer and let us know what you think.
