'The Host' Trailer: 'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer Returns with Futuristic Alien Love Story

Nov 13, 2012

Stephenie Meyer is moving on from vamps to aliens with her 2013 adaptation of The Host, based on her own novel of the same name. She's producing the futuristic project that follows a young woman, Melanie (Saoirse Ronan), who has been "possessed" by a parasitic alien soul. The creature is one of many inhabiting humans across the globe as part of a mission to take over the planet. Melanie forms a bond with the alien, which causes it to stray from the operation and help Melanie free other humans. And since this is a Meyer story, there's a love interest played by Red Riding Hood star Max Irons.

A trailer for the film has dropped, which we've shared with you below. Now that there's an empty hole in the hearts of Twilight fans everywhere with the final Breaking Dawn chapter released this Friday, The Host should fill it nicely. Like the undead romance tale, there's a bit of action and plenty of heated, over-the-top drama. Even if you're not into star-crossed teens in a sci-fi universe, you may find some solace with Gattaca and Lord of War director Andrew Niccol. The Host will invade theaters on March 29. Check out a newly released poster for the film, below.
