'The Do-Deca-Pentathalon' Trailer: Two Brothers Compete in Fierce, Homemade Olympics

In front of the camera, everyone seems to love Mark Duplass. He's great as Pete on FX' The League (the funniest show currently on TV), and we've heard nothing but good things about him in Safety Not Guaranteed. Behind the camera is a different story, though. Mark is one half of the Duplass brothers directing duo (the other being Jay), and it's not unfair to say that their films aren't always for everyone. Their more indie offerings, like Scrapple, Baghead and The Puffy Chair might come off as a little too unrefined for some people's tastes, while their more mainstream offerings like Cyrus and Jeff, Who Lives at Home have found much wider acclaim.

Their latest film, The Do-Deca-Pentathlon, looks like it's a bridge between the Duplass' indie and mainstream sensibilities. Visually, the film certainly looks like a ton of no budget films out there. Conceptually, though, a script about two brothers who recreate, as adults, the ridiculous homemade Olympics they conceived of as children, is something you can easily imagine having been written for the likes of John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell.

Just see for yourself. You can also check out two great Do-Deca interviews over at Fandango with the writer-directors and the cast.

The Do-Deca-Pentathalon hits theaters July 6th, 2012.
