As another work week draws to a close, we’ve got four new trailers to help get you through your Friday afternoon. Read on for previews of some cool upcoming features.
We kick things off with a new trailer for the IFC comedy Why Stop Now?. Jesse Eisenberg headlines this quirky laugher as a young man trying to get his mother (Melissa Leo) into rehab before his big piano audition. Unfortunately, she can’t get in – and Eisenberg finds himself spending the day working for his mom’s dealer (Tracy Morgan) – with funny results.
Eisenberg still seems to only play one kind of character (just like Michael Cera), but if you like seeing him as a socially awkward misfit geek, you’ll probably enjoy this clip. You can catch Why Stop Now? today on iTunes and SundanceNOW. It starts its theatrical run on August 17th.
Next up, we’ve got this confounding clip for The Loneliest Planet.
Gabriel Garcia Bernal and Hani Furstenberg star in this new feature coming courtesy of Sundance Selects. It’s an odd trailer – and a bit of an anomaly in that it doesn’t really tell us much about what kind of movie this is. In a world where trailers often spoil the endings of the films they're promoting, it’s unusual to find a clip that leaves you wondering what you just saw when it all ends.
All we can gather from this clip is that our two leads go on some kind of dream vacation and then something strange happens. What happens? Your guess is as good as ours at this point – but it doesn’t look good for the protagonists.
All answers will finally be revealed when The Loneliest Planet hits theaters on October 26th – just in time for Halloween.
Third on our list is this updated teaser clip for Taken 2. What’s there to say about this one? Liam Neeson is back, kicking ass, and this time his daughter has to help out a bit as it’s Neeson and wife Famke Janssen who are kidnapped.
Pierre Morel hands over directorial duties to Olivier Megaton (what a name…), but the action looks as exciting as ever. There’s even some new footage mixed into this nearly minute long clip – so don’t miss out.
Taken 2 is set for release on October 5th.
And finally, we close with a new trailer for Rise of the Guardians – DreamWorks Animation’s newest project.
When the Bogeyman launches an attack on Earth, it’s up to Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Sandman, and The Tooth Fairy to join forces with Jack Frost to stop the monster's nefarious plan. Featuring an all star cast of voice talent (Chris Pine, Isla Fisher, Hugh Jackman, Alec Baldwin, and Jude Law), this one looks to be shaping up quite nicely.
We’ll find out who’s naughty or nice when the Rise of the Guardians brings the battle to a theater near you on November 21st.
