'Skyfall' Tops 'Avatar' As the U.K.'s Highest-Grossing Film of All Time

Step aside, Twilight. Two weeks at the box office for Breaking Dawn Part 2 just wasn't enough to cut it against the 23rd Bond film, Skyfall. Sam Mendes' take on 007 tops the box office after its sixth week of release, and became the U.K.'s highest-grossing film of all time. Deadline reports that "in 40 days of release, the 23rd James Bond movie has grossed £94,277,612 ($151,795,059) at the box office to overtake the previous record held by James Cameron’s Avatar... "

Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli commented that they are "overwhelmed" by the positive response moviegoers have bestowed upon the Daniel Craig-starring movie. "We are very proud of this film and thank everybody, especially Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes, who have contributed to its success," their statement read. Box office numbers tally Skyfall's North American numbers at $245.9 million so far (since Sunday). That price tag has been helped somewhat by premium ticket prices for Skyfall's IMAX experience.

Although Skyfall has topped Avatar in the U.K., globally the film still has some work to do. Skyfall's $870 million is still no match for the James Cameron's environmental saga's record $2.8 billion, according to website BoxOfficeMojo. Does Bond have it in him?
