'Skyfall' Screenwriter Returns for 'Bond 24' and '25;' Producers Would Love Christopher Nolan to Direct

Oct 26, 2012

Update: In addition to the story below, Deadline now reports that John Logan will write both Bond 24 and Bond 25, and that there will be a two-film arc, featuring a story that connects both. Does that mean they'll be shot back-to-back? Will the same person direct both? No word yet, but it's exciting to see them taking the franchise in some different directions. For now, Daniel Craig will return for both films, but from there we don't know. See our original story from earlier below.

What news do you want first: the big news, or the other big news? In case you had any doubt that the advertising flurry and 50th anniversary celebrations have fast-tracked the 24th installment in the James Bond franchise, news comes from MI6 that the upcoming (2014) movie already has a writer in place. Skyfall co-scribe John Logan will be working on Bond 24, but he'll be flying solo this time around. The website reports that an outline for the film has already been penned by Logan, "with only the core 'Bond Family' team aware of the plans."

We already know that Skyfall star Daniel Craig will remain the titular leader of that family for the next two outings, but producers have already met with Prometheus actor Idris Elba to possibly take over the reins. The studio plans to shoot in 12 months time, aiming to get 007 back on his two-year release cycle. With Logan's experience and current buzz, this is a perfect opportunity to snag another big-name director, and it seems that Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan is being seriously considered for the role.

Skyfall's associate producer Gregg Wilson made a statement expressing his enthusiasm. "Christopher Nolan would be a 'dream' choice for a future Bond director. We would of course be interested to have a discussion with him. We would like to do the same type of movie. It would be a dream to be with Nolan. But we always have an open mind when it comes to directors." Just this summer, Nolan expressed his own interest in directing 007, so a meeting definitely sounds like it's in the cards (at least a fan can hope). If Nolan makes his Bond debut, what's the over-under on seeing Michael Caine as Q? Discuss.
