The 'Scream' TV Show Has Found Its Drew Barrymore

The 'Scream' TV Show Has Found Its Drew Barrymore

Dec 11, 2014

Scream has one of the best opening scenes in horror-movie history. Even if you remove the fact that Drew Barrymore, who was the biggest name actor in the movie, gets murdered in the opening minutes, it still stands as a fantastic piece of tension between a lonely teen girl and the crazy guy threatening to cut her into pieces. The way it goes from playful to sinister is downright perfect.

So of course it's going to be re-created in the already announced Scream TV show for MTV. That's really not all too surprising, though its inclusion was up in the air once word got out that the iconic Ghostface mask wasn't actually going to be in the show.

But who is this generations Drew Barrymore? None other than Bella Thorne.

If you were a teen when Wes Craven's Scream originally came out, you're probably going, "Who?" And that's understandable because she's not (yet) a big deal to your generation.

Thorne has only recently started to pop up in big-screen movies like Blended (with Drew Barrymore) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, but she's a big deal to the generation that'll make a Scream TV show a hit. She's a Disney Channel staple, starring in Shake It Up! and has branched out to other kid-friendly movies like R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly: Have You Met My Ghoulfriend? and the Disney Channel movie Frenemies

So Bella Thorne definitely has the credentials to be a teen icon who gets tragically sliced and diced when MTV's Scream starts airing at some point in 2015.
