It was only a matter of time before Fox decided to reboot Predator. The studio has already made two crossover films, and a pseduo-reboot with 2010's Predators, but this time around it's pressing the reset button for good. And while that doesn't automatically have us excited, the person pressing the reset button does: Shane Black.
Not only was Shane Black in the first Predator, but he's one of the greatest action writers and directors around. Most recently he turned Iron Man 3 into arguably the best stand-alone Marvel movie, but he's also been involved with so many great movies, like Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout and Last Action Hero. And so we're happy to see him take on a new Predator movie.
But that's not all. Black will be writing the treatment for the movie (which is like the blueprint), which he'll then be handing off to his longtime friend Fred Dekker (Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps) to pen the actual script. Once that's all done, Black will direct.
Before everyone goes nuts at the idea of a Shane Black Predator reboot, it's worth pointing out that this is now the third big film Black has in development. He also has The Nice Guys, a '70s crime movie potentially starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and Doc Savage, an old pulpy hero that may be played by Chris Hemsworth. Neither of those films have immediate start dates, so it's unclear if this is going to take precedent over them or what, but either way it's just exciting to see Black and Dekker finally teaming together on a project this big.
