After the success of Paranormal Activity 3 (which has grossed over $200 million worldwide to date), it’s no surprise that Paramount is eager to continue the franchise. We’ve known Paranormal Activity 4 was in the works for awhile now, but Bloody-Disgusting brings us an interesting new update on the project today – the film is about to land its directors.
According to BD, Paranormal Activity 3 directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost are nearly set for a return to the series. It’s unclear as to whether or not this is a done deal or just in final negotiations at this point, but either way, it appears the Catfish directors will be back behind the cameras for the next installment, which will hit theaters on October 19th.
PA has become a perennial October presence after Oren Peli’s first film came out of nowhere and knocked out Jigsaw and the Saw franchise. To date, the films in the series have made nearly a billion dollars between theatrical releases and home video, making the franchise the crown jewel of studio horror flicks.
If nothing else, the return of Schulman and Joost should provide some decent continuity between the third and fourth installment. Expect more Paranormal Activity updates as the calendar inches through spring and summer.
