There's no better time for the first official Need for Speed trailer to arrive. This weekend, the spot will hit theaters alongside the wide release of another kind of car-racing movie, Rush. And it will offer fans of Breaking Bad strength and guidance on the eve of the series' final episode. But does it promise a theatrical career for Aaron Paul?
If we can get past the comparisons to the Fast and Furious movies and Drive (which featured Paul's Breaking Bad co-star, Bryan Cranston), then that's a yes. Because who doesn't want to see Jesse Pinkman outracing police and army helicopters and seeking revenge in a video game adaptation?
Just don't let this trailer's use of Max Richter's "Sarajevo" give you bad flashbacks to all your hopes and dreams for Prometheus. The operatic track definitely offers a different kind of feeling to car crashes and explosions than it did to that sci-fi prequel's international spot.
If you're not familiar with the original racing game it's based on, no matter because the movie seems to have more of a plot. Paul plays a street racer just released from prison who enters a cross-country race while out for revenge against the man who framed him and trying to elude the authorities hot on his trail. Imogen Poots plays his love interest.
