'Man of Steel' Toy Commercial Reveals a First Look at Zod and More

Oct 16, 2012

We have to preface this post by saying that the way a character is portrayed as a toy does not necessarily mean this is exactly what it will look like in the movie, but it may give you an idea as to the direction the filmmakers are heading. We also have to warn you that this toy commercial for next summer's Man of Steel movie does reveal a few spoilers that may be revealed in later trailers for the film or not. We just don't know. So read this and watch the commercial at your own risk.

All that said, Bleeding Cool managed to get their hands on an upcoming commercial for toys tied to Zack Snyder's Superman movie Man of Steel, and they kinda give us our first look at the film's villain, Zod (Michael Shannon), who looks completely different from the Zod we saw in Superman II played by Terrence Stamp. This version of Zod looks more alien, and we're curious to see how close this is to Shannon's completed version. We know the man was covered in dots for most of filming, so whatever the final version is we don't expect to it to look much like Shannon, the human.

Also revealed in the commercial is the fact that Zod has a robot army and a massive spaceship (called Black Zero, which is probably referencing the terrorist organizations from the comics), both of which we expect to see in the movie. Considering the rumors that Iron Man will also square off against a robot army in Iron Man 3, it should be interesting to see which film tackles the whole "attacking robot army" the best, as the two films are opening a little over a month apart.

Check out the commercial below (which is not a final version). Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14, 2013.
