There are so few facts to this story that there's no use in building suspense: Universal Pictures has given Jurassic Park 4 (in 3D) a June 13, 2014 release date.
That news was broken by The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, who also revealed that the studio still doesn't have a director attached to the project, but that they did receive a new draft of the screenplay from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Presumably this release date, which is a mere 18 months away, means that Universal is quite happy with whatever state the script is in, and that the studio is ready to barrel forward on the project.
Of course, this is all mighty convenient timing considering it was revealed just earlier this week that Steven Spielberg would not be making Robopocalypse his next film. However, don't immediately assume that means he's jumping into the director's chair on Jurassic Park 4. Kit indicated that he was only onboard as a producer. But who knows? Maybe Spielberg will take a cue from his Adventures of Tintin partner Peter Jackson playbook: Remember, he was only supposed to produce The Hobbit before taking command of the high-profile gig himself. Maybe Spielberg's nostalgia will get the best of him and he'll end up doing it himself.
