In honor of its 20th anniversary next year, Jurassic Park is being converted to 3D and heading back to theaters on April 5, 2013. As such, Universal debuted a poster today promoting the event, and there's a trailer arriving tomorrow. While it might be easy to wave this off as just another old film trying to capitalize on the 3D conversion trend, Jurassic Park is different.
For a lot of people (including yours truly) Jurassic Park is one of their most memorable moviegoing experiences ever. The 1993 Steven Spielberg film floored me when I first saw it on the big screen, mainly because of its amazing, groundbreaking effects work, but also because it marked the debut of the DTS surround sound system, making it seem as if giant dinosaurs were literally creeping up on all sides of you. This movie flat-out scared me, and I was like 16 at the time. It'll be interesting to see how it converts to 3D, and whether it'll add to what's already a fantastic movie to watch in a theater.
Check out the shiny new poster below. What do you think? Will you see it, or are you tired of these 3D rereleases by now?
