'Jack Reacher' Crybaby: One Man Complains When a Shot from the Trailer Doesn't Make the Movie

Can we talk about how stupid the name Jack Reacher is and that Tom Cruise is talking about aliens again? Let's also talk about some guy in New Zealand who bought a ticket to see Cruise's aforementioned action thriller and complained of false advertising. One J. Congdon told the Advertising Standards Authority that a scene in the fast-paced trailer where a cliff explodes didn't show up in the final movie. It's a split-second moment, but it happened to be one of several scenes cut from the film before it hit theaters.

That's not an unusual practice. Distributors create trailers weeks and months before a movie enters cinemas and changes are often made at the last minute. Paramount defended its trailer as "true and fair," but the studio offered the complainant a refund of his ticket price. Congdon said that the scene was "the defining part of the ad that made [him] really want to go see the movie." Do you agree? Or should this guy put his big-boy pants on and find something more worthy to gripe about? We believe the explosion he's describing happens around the 1:12 mark of this international trailer. Jack Reacher arrives on Blu-ray May 7.
