'It' Director's Cut on Its Way

'It' Director's Cut on Its Way

Even before Andy Muschietti's big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's It made its way to the big screen, we heard that certain scenes had been cut for budgetary reasons. Muschietti suggested that at least two of those scenes might be filmed for the planned sequel. Of course, the next installment has not yet been given the official green light by Warner Bros. and New Line, but now we've learned that an extended edition of the first movie will appear on home video.

The news reached director Andy Muschietti and his filmmaking partner, producer Barbara Muschietti -- who is also his sister -- just before they spoke with Yahoo about the movie. Andy Muschietti described one scene in particular that had been trimmed, reluctantly, involving Stanley Uris (Wyatt Oleff, below) at a bar mitzvah: "It has a great resolution. … Maybe it will be in the director’s cut!”

Barbara Muschietti said: “Right, we are going to do a director’s cut. We were told this morning."

The director also talked about another scene that takes place at a quarry, right after the young heroes engage in a spitting contest: "It escalates into something that is completely weird and irrelevant to the scene but is so funny. Jack [Dylan] Grazer (below), who plays Eddie, does something that is completely bonkers.”

Andy Muschietti also spoke again about his interest in making a new version of Stephen King's Pet Sematary or perhaps a movie based on King's short story "The Jaunt," a time-traveling tale. As we've heard previously, the filmmaking duo will next direct the pilot episode for Hulu's adaptation of Locke and Key, based on a wonderfully spooky comic book series by Joe Hill (also known as Stephen King's son) and Gabriel Rodriguez.

The release date for the home video version of It has not yet been announced, though it may arrive before the end of the year. It is now playing in theaters nationwide.
