Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters looks like a silly movie, but at least it looks like a silly movie with a lot of blood and witch heads going splat, right? At least that seems to be the hope the new red-band trailer for the film, directed by Dead Snow's Tommy Wirkola, is shooting for.
It's kind of hard to take Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton busting witch skulls open with their leather-clad outfits and steampunk-esque weapons seriously, but since it's starting to look like the movie doesn't take its own self too seriously, that's alright, right? This new trailer at least seems to be a step up from the first trailer, which took itself way too seriously and in turn just made everyone think of movies like Van Helsing and Brothers Bloom. Will it pay off in the end? We're not wildly enthusiastic, but maybe we can at least upgrade our skepticism to cautiously optimistic.
We're still a few months away from its January 25, 2013 theatrical release, so there is time for Hansel and Gretel to show us something that really sells us on the whole 3D shebang.
