Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is an actor who has been poised on the edge of stardom for a while* and now thanks to a crucial role in HBO's incredibly popular Game of Thrones**, it looks the Danish actor may finally be pushed over that edge. He's just been cast alongside fellow rising star Jessica Chastain in a Guillermo del Toro produced horror movie for Universal called simply Mama.
Coster-Waldau will actually be pulling double duty in the film by playing twins. Specifically, Deadline says he'll be playing, "a father and uncle to a pair of young girls who are haunted by a ghostly woman that could be their mother." Chastain will be playing the female lead, though it's unclear if that means she'll be the maternal ghost or, presumably, the handsome man's new lady. The film will be directed by Andres Muschietti based on a short he made back in 2008 that apparently caught del Toro's eye.
*If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend checking out Coster-Waldau in the Peter Berg-directed, Ronald D. Moore-scripted Virtuality. It was a pilot for a Fox sci-fi show that never got picked up, but at 87 minutes long, it actually works as a self-contained movie. And while you're waiting for that to come in from Netflix, you can check him out On Demand in Blackthorn, where he plays a young Butch Cassidy.
**Speaking of Game of Thrones, it looks like Neil Marshall will direct a Season 2 episode.
