No one watched Sylvester Stallone's Expedables
in 2010 for its Oscar-winning dialogue or fascinating character development. Audiences wanted to see the action icons of their youth, blood-soaked and kicking ass for 103 minutes. Everything we've learned so far about the upcoming sequel has promised bigger action and more stars we love — including Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van-Damme, Nan Yu, Liam Hemsworth, Scott Adkins, and more Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. That's all well and good, but now comes news that Expendables 2
is seeking a PG-13 rating. One of these things is not like the other.
"The PG13 rumor is true, but before your readers pass judgement, trust me when I say this film is LARGE in every way and delivers on every level. This movie touches on many emotions which we want to share with the broadest audience possible, BUT, fear not, this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry … "
Meanwhile, star Chuck Norris recently spoke
to Polish newspaper Gazeta
and provided an explanation for the reduced rating:
"In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. For this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But I don’t play in movies like this. Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13."
Norris is an outspoken Christian, so his comments aren't surprising, but for action fans it's a huge disappointment. Its hard to imagine how the team is going to pull this one off. High levels of violence aren't required to create entertaining action cinema, but it sure as hell helps matters. Whether Norris was truly the sole reason behind the PG-13 is unclear, but we'll have to take Stallone at his word for now. Will you be ditching part two when it arrives this August, or do you think Sly can live up to his promises?
