'Elf' Is Getting a Stop-Motion Christmas Special About Buddy's Search for His Father

Oct 27, 2014

Depending on your tolerance for Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory, this news will either excite you or irrationally annoy you. Jim Parsons is set to voice the lead role in the animated TV special Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas.

Deadline indicates that the NBC holiday show is a spin-off of the 2003 film Elf, which featured Will Ferrell in the role of the syrup-loving Buddy. It sounds more schizophrenic than it is, but Buddy was an abandoned boy who was adopted by Santa Claus and company — so he actually thinks he’s an elf. Hilarity ensues watching a middle-aged man wearing tights and doing ridiculous things.

But did you know there was a Broadway show inspired by the film? This new Elf special will take its musical inspiration from the 2010 production about Buddy's search for his father. Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, Gilbert Gottfried, Kate Micucci, Rachael, MacFarlane, Max Charles and Steve Higgins also lend their voices to the TV special.

Look for Elf on December 16, 2014 on NBC.
