We’re starting to get a bit of a Ghostbusters 3 vibe when it comes to Dumb and Dumber 2 – the planned sequel to the Farrelly Brothers 1994 hit (not to be confused with the disappointing Dumb and Dumberer) has had some ups and downs during the pre-production process, including Jim Carrey pulling a Bill Murray and dropping out of the project, but things appear to be back on track.
Crave Online caught up with star Jeff Daniels at a recent press event for The Network, but the actor took time to clue everyone in on the latest regarding the ongoing adventures of Harry and Lloyd.
Daniels says that there’s more hope than ever that the sequel will get off the ground.
“Jim wants to do it. I want to do it. The Farrellys want to do it. They want to rewrite the script a little bit and they aren’t trying to jam it in before I have to go back and do Newsroom in November. So they’re going, ‘Why don’t we just do it right? Let’s get everybody organized to go next May or June.’ If everything works out on the business side, that’s what we’ll do but I think there’s more hope than ever.”
The actor goes on to explain that costar Carrey backed out because the timing wasn’t right for him, but that it wasn’t a permanent thing.
“I understood why, because this has been a year and a half of a whole bunch of are we, aren’t we, what’s going on, yeah the script’s funny, no it’s not, now we have to have notes. So I think Jim just got frustrated and I completely got it.”
Daniels concludes by saying he thinks they’ll aim to start shooting next year – sometime after his work on The Newsroom wraps. Sounds like good news to us. We’ll keep you updated on Dumb and Dumber 2 as more developments occur.
