'Crystal Fairy' Exclusive Clip: Michael Cera Hunts for a Magical Cactus with a Big Knife

Jul 11, 2013

If you don't want to see a movie starring Michael Cera as a young man on a mission to find a cactus that'll get him and the girl he's trying to impress really high, you may want to stop reading right now.

Actually, don't. Let us tell you a little bit more about the movie, just in case that wasn't enough of a sell.

Crystal Fairy premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it was not only met with a wave of rave reviews from critics, but took home a nomination for the fest's World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and a win for its World Cinema Directing Award. So if you thought Sebastián Silva's film was just skating by on the bizarre image of Michael Cera desperately clinging to a cactus, it's safe to say there's more to it than that.

IFC Films is releasing Crystal Fairy in theaters and On Demand on July 12, 2013, and to help set the mood we've got a clip from the film featuring Cera, a big knife and a big cactus. Check it, and the official synopsis, out below. Oh, and don't miss our interview with Cera from the film's Sundance debut.

On a trip through Chile a boorish American expat named Jamie (Michael Cera) and three Chilean brothers plan to set off in search of the prized San Pedro cactus and its promise of beachy hallucinations. But in the previous night’s drunken stupor Jamie invites a free-spirited fellow American (Gaby Hoffmann), whose devil-may-care worldview gives them more of an adventure than any of them had bargained for.
