'Chronicle' Star to Head 'Through the Never' for Metallica and the Director of 'Predators'

Remember that Metallica 3D film that Predators filmmaker Nimród Antal was going to direct? Metallica Through the Never — named after a song on their self-titled, 1991 album — sounded like it would be a docudrama, but other details were scarce. A new press release now tells us that Chronicle actor Dane DeHaan will be joining the project, which is set for release on August 9.

DeHaan will play the band's crew member "who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a rousing live set in front of a sold-out crowd and unexpectedly finds his world turned completely upside down." It's being released by Picturehouse — the formerly defunct company whose founders, Bob and Jeanne Berney, backed some great films like Pan's Labyrinth, Bright Star and Drive - and will hit theaters later this year and Netflix not long after.

While that nugget of info means this might not be a total loss, we're not banking on that. After all, Metallica is responsible for the awful album Lulu, on which they collaborated with Lou Reed. If pregnant, dying cats made a metal album about a German prostitute, Lulu is definitely the way it would sound. The press release is unclear if we'll still be seeing Through the Never in 3D, but we can probably count on these guys going overboard in every way imaginable.
