'Aquaman' Debuts First Poster; Here's Everything We Know

Jul 16, 2018

With Comic-Con coming up this weekend, we should be hearing and seeing a lot of Aquaman. The upcoming DC superhero movie will feature Jason Momoa reprising his role as the title character, last seen in Justice League.

And while there hasn't yet been a trailer promoting the December release, we have seen some exciting images of the movie and director James Wan has just shared another via Twitter. Presumably a shot from the trailer, the pic showcases whom many presume to be Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson), Aquaman's half-brother and the main antagonist in the movie.

In addition to that tease, Warner Bros. released the first poster for Aquaman this week, and it's pretty spiffy. The one-sheet spotlights Momoa front and center and joined by all his friends from the sea. This looks like a different kind of superhero movie from anything we've ever seen before, even from the DC Extended Universe.

Here's everything we know about Aquaman so far:

What's the story?

Aquaman will spotlight the eponymous DC Comics superhero, a character who mostly resides on land. The son of an Atlantean queen and a human man, he must return to the sea ("home is calling," as the tagline hints) to battle his half-brother Orm, aka the Ocean Master, for some unrevealed reason concerning the fate of Atlantis. The movie will definitely involve other underwater kingdoms, but the plot is still mostly under wraps.

Who is in the cast?

Jason Momoa is reprising his role as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman. Nicole Kidman plays his mother, Queen Atlanna, Temuera Morrison is his father, Patrick Wilson is King Orm and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is another villain called Black Manta. There's also Amber Heard as the princess Mera, Dolph Lundgren as her father, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King and Willem Dafoe as Aquaman's mentor.

Who is directing the movie?

James Wan, best known for directing the horror movies Saw and The Conjuring, as well as the action sequel Furious 7, is helming Aquaman

Who wrote the screenplay?

David Leslie Johnson, who previously wrote Wan's The Conjuring 2, and Gangster Squad's Will Beall co-wrote the Aquaman script based on Beall's story idea with Wan and DC's Geoff Johns.

When does the movie come out?

Aquaman will hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
