'Another Earth' Star Brit Marling Wanted by Robert Redford, Tom Cruise, and Steven Soderbergh?

Everybody wants film festival darling Brit Marling after her sci-fi drama debut, Another Earth, garnered praise at Sundance earlier this year. Now Vulture is reporting that the writer-actress is being courted by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Steven Soderbergh and Robert Redford. Marling has her pick of several projects and has already said no to one while she sorts out the start date for her latest script.

Soderbergh has been talking about retiring soon, but the Channing Tatum stripper tale Magic Mike is next on his agenda. Marling was offered a part that required a two-week shoot, but has turned the director down to avoid a possible conflict with her FBI thriller The East -- about a government agent who storms an ecoterrorist group. She co-wrote the project with former Sound of My Voice collaborator Zal Batmanglij. Vulture's source says the October 11 date is shaky, but the studio will push ahead once the film finds its big-name lead.
The Company You Keep – Redford's Sneakers-esque romantic thriller based on Neil Gordon's novel -- starts shooting September 14. The director-actor has inquired about Marling's schedule for a part alongside the "former Weather Underground militant (Redford) turned fugitive after being unmasked by an enterprising newspaper reporter (Shia LaBeouf)."
The Tom Cruise vehicle, One Shot, may be competing with Company because of its September 27 shoot date. The film is based on the Jack Reacher book series about a drifter-investigator – starring Cruse in the role, with Marlin being offered the part of Helen Rodin, a defense attorney.
Do one of these projects sound at home with the bright and unassuming actress, or do you see more indie films in her near future?
