'Alternative Movie Posters: Art from the Underground' Is Your New Favorite Coffee Table Book

Oct 09, 2013

More than 100 artists (from 20 countries) and 200 posters are featured in Matthew Chojnacki's Alternative Movie Posters: Film Art from the Underground, a visual feast for film nerds who appreciate alt versions of movie posters that represent cult favorites such as The Big Lebowski, Fight Club and Pink Flamingos. We've featured several from the book, below.

If you worship at the altar of Mondo, take out a credit line to purchase the latest Olly Moss, or feel a tug at your heartstrings when you see Back to the Future reimagined as a triptych, this book is your bible. The author spent a year working his way through over 10,000 artworks to curate his book, which includes fan art, magazine illustrations, promo pieces for theatrical events, and more.

"I wanted to include a wide range of artistic styles, film genres and countries of origin," Chojnacki told The Verge. There are some truly imaginative works featured within — like the Pac-Man and Labyrinth mash-up or the Blade Runner artificial owl from the Tyrell Corporation as a Russian propaganda poster. For more fun alternative poster art, pick up a copy of Chojnacki's book over here.
