Bradley Cooper

Movie theater owners from around the world are gathered right now in Las Vegas. Known as CinemaCon, the event is primarily intended as a trade show for exhibitors and provides an opportunity for major Hollywood studios to show off their upcoming attractions. Many films are previewed, with stars and filmmakers in attendance. A musical drama and a superhero adventure drew big reactions this year.

'A Star Is Born'

A venerable story gets a modern twist in A Star Is Born, which follows the trajectory of a rising musical artist (Lady Gaga) and a falling star (Bradley Cooper). Making his directorial debut, Cooper sings live in the film, which surprised many. Lady Gaga impressed everybody with her evident dramatic talent. Look for the movie in theaters on October 5.

Reactions on social media to the first trailer were enthusiastic:

"First trailer for A Star Is Born gave me chills. Lady Gaga’s Hollywood moment is far from over. Music is phenomenal." - Crystal Bell, MTV News

"I mean, the trailer for 'A Star is Born' just made me cry. Signed, sealed, delivered, I'm yours." - Amy Kaufman, Los Angeles Times

"Huge applause for first trailer for #AStarIsBorn, which feels like it could definitely be an awards player. Both Cooper and Gaga look great in it. First fall-movie preview I’ve seen where awards will for sure be in the conversation." - Erik Davis, Fandango

"Damn, A Star is Born looks powerful, I cannot lie." - Kevin Polowy, Yahoo Entertainment

"I don’t even know if I can put what I just saw into words. Wow. I’m literally speechless. Bradley Cooper can SING! Gaga is raw... their chemistry is palpable. Just wow." - Lauren Cox, Hollywood Life

'Aquaman'

We've been eagerly waiting to see a trailer for the film, which promises to be a very distinctive superhero adventure that takes place largely under the sea. Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and director James Wan (Furious 7, The Conjuring 2) were present for the occasion, showing rough footage to give movie exhibitors an idea of what to expect. The reaction was extremely positive. Aquaman will open in theaters everywhere on December 21.

How did social media react?

"First #Aquaman footage shows rough VFX as the story delves deep underwater into the world of Atlantis. Patrick Wilson's Orm rasps at the end, 'War is coming to the surface and I'm bringing the wrath of the Seven Seas with me.'" - Piya Sinha-Roy, Entertainment Weekly

"Warner Bros. just showed the first Aquaman trailer: looks epic. Patrick Wilson looks great at Ocean Master. There's a massive war with men riding sharks fighting a foot army. And Black Manta looks brilliant. The Black Manta we deserve is coming!" - Brandon Davis, ComicBook.com

"James Wan still deep in the editing process of AQUAMAN, but shows a work-in-progress trailer. Epic in scale much like WONDER WOMAN. Atlantis will astound. Black Mantis. This is DC’s next big hit." - Exhibitor Relations

"We saw a work in progress teaser for Aquaman and it features a submarine fight, blunt instruments, sharks, sand dune spiritual talks, and a challenge for the throne. We are psyched!! And Jason Momoa is having the time of his life on stage." - Fandango
