'300' Sequel Has Chosen a Director

'300' Sequel Has Chosen a Director

Jul 18, 2011

XerxesNow that Jaume Collet-Serra has been set to work on an American version of Katsuhiro Otomo's anime classic, Akira, the 300 sequel -- now being dubbed 300: Battle of Artemisia (formerly called Xerxes) -- can welcome it's other potential director to battle, Smart People's Noam MurroArtemisia is based on Frank Miller's soon to be released graphic novel, which tells the story of how Xerxes was transformed into an avenging deity. After Xerxes' father, Darius, is killed by the Greeks during the Battle of Marathon, he seeks to become a God and eventually dukes it out with the Athenian commander, Themistocles.

Murro was attached to the fifth Die Hard movie -- which now may be put to the side while he gears up for Artemisia -- but it was his commerical for the Halo videogame campaign and the indie drama Smart People that got everyone's attention. Murro will be guided by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad's script, which the Sucker Punch director wrote last year before switching gears to work on Man of Steel. The film will be shot in the same style as Snyder's 300.

Did the 300 team make the right choice with Murro? And do you want to see Rodrigo Santoro back as King Xerxes?
