Facebook year in review

With only a few short weeks left in 2013 (man, where has the time gone?), you’re going to be seeing a lot of retrospectives in the days ahead. We’ve found one of the cooler ones already and are sharing it with you today.

The folks behind Facebook Stories have put together a really neat year-in-review short that manages to remind us of many of the silly things that will mark 2013 while placing them alongside the more serious events that history will remember. As such, gay marriage sits alongside the Harlem Shake. The passing of Nelson Mandela shares space with fan reactions to Game of Thrones’ “Red Wedding” episode, and so on.

It would be easy to screw this whole thing up – putting cat memes next to serious social issues could come across as a bit glib, but the Facebook Stories team really nails the balance – creating what’s sure to make you look back on the past 12 months with a mixture of smiles, sadness, pride and a healthy dose of “man, pop and Internet culture really latches on to some weird crap” disbelief.

Check it out below and prepare to relive the glory that was 2013.
