The 2011 Viewfinder List Boasts the Best Shorts, Commercials & Music Videos of the Year
The filmmaker's version of the screenwriter's Black List, The Viewfinder List is a group of the year's best shorts, commercials, and music videos — as voted by a group of studio execs, producers, and other filmmaking creatives. Last year's list saw now familiar names, like 47 Ronin director Carl Erik Rinsch. His futuristic action-thriller The Gift got him noticed amongst those who hadn't been seeing his name amongst all that Alien prequel back-and-forth. Pixels' Patrick Jean also made the cut.
The 2011 names have now been revealed, and Dan Trachtenberg's Portal: No Escape made the number one spot. The story — set in the world of the Portal videogame series world — finds one woman waking up in a room with no memory of who she is or how she got there. The sexy exploitation-inspired Black Keys' video directed by Chris Marrs Piliero also appears, along with that super cute Star Wars Volkswagon commercial that showed up during the Super Bowl.
