What Today's Celebrity Mugshots Would Look Like in the 1920s

Sep 13, 2012

We love the concept behind Mugshot Doppelganger — a Tumblr that publishes transposed celebrity mugshots mashed with those from the 1920s. It's a simple, but effectively mesmerizing concept, especially considering that some of these Hollywood jailbirds look right at home in their vintage getups. "The tacky looking mugshots we have today are in stark contrast to the mugshots taken in the 1920’s," the artfully composed website says. "Vintage mugshots have an eerie beauty to them that’s lost in current mugshot photography. What would celebrity mugshots, the ones we’ve become accustomed to seeing on TMZ, look like if instead they were taken in the 1920s?"

Mel Gibson's photo proves he has a face for the ages and is a chameleon that fits right in during any time period. That crazy-eye thing also seems way cooler when it's old-timey. Same for Robert Downey Jr. who looks super handsome. Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan look flapper-glam lovely, but we still wouldn't pass them a shiv. Macaulay Culkin appears to be less Skeletor here, but we want to prevent him from time traveling too much since we're curious to see his new art show. And then there's Nick Nolte's snapshot, which is sheer perfection: the fur, the hair, the jaunty scarf. Dig into the images below, and then head to Mugshot Doppelganger for more great photo manipulations.
