PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
You Can Fool All the People… This indie horror flick’s good buzz might just get ruined by the trailer, which shows a bunch of jittery teens at a screening being filmed jumping and squirming in their seats. Hello? If those kids weren't paid off to act scared, then I'll sit through Bruno ten times in a row.
THE A-TEAM
"A" Is for “Awesome” If you didn’t see the amazing District 9 earlier this year, you missed arguably the best movie of the summer. Now it’s this close to official: the movie’s uncomfortably likable star Sharlto Copley will play eccentric Captain “Howling Mad” Murdock, which should fit him like a glove, and Jessica Biel’s playing a military general who's Faceman’s ex. Make of that what you will.
RED DAWN
Goodnight, Patrick Swayze Sadly, the actor died of pancreatic cancer after a 20-month battle (is it too soon for the Ghost 2 jokes? Kidding…) but the show must go on, and the Red Dawn remake is underway. Weird twist: Connor Cruise, the son of Tom, Swayze’s co-star in The Outsiders, plays one of the teens defending his town from invasion.
HALLUCINOGENIC HIJINKS
Hey, We Want Some of That In other bizarre movie marketing efforts around the world, a U.K. PR firm invited people to be filmed taking a (mysteriously legal) drug for a YouTube video released in conjunction with the DVD of a movie called Reckoning Day. Weird twist: The drugs have nothing to do with the movie. Creepy.
MARVEL AND US
Superhero Alert Don't expect Goofy-Man to join The Avengers anytime soon, but Disney's CFO has this to say about the recent acquisition of Marvel Entertainment: "You can never have too many heroes." What he really means is more Iron Man and Hulk T-shirts, backpacks, watches, keychains, Happy Meals....
