Ledi Makbet Mtsenskovo Uezda Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

Based on a novel by Nikolai Leskov (which also inspired [[Performer~P115731~Andrzej Wajda~andrzejwajda]]'s 1964 feature [[Feature~V18996~A Siberian Lady Macbeth~thesiberianladymacbeth]] and a modernistic opera), the story concerns Katerina ([[Performer~P130591~Natalia Andreichenko~natalyaandreichenko]]), the disgruntled wife of a boorish merchant ([[Performer~P55341~Nikolai Pastukhov~nikolaipastukhov]]). When she falls in love with Sergei ([[Performer~P130045~Alexander Abdulov~alexanderabdulov]]), Katerina inveigles the handsome youth into helping her murder her husband. Irony piles upon irony in the sturm-und-drang closing scenes. The title [[Feature~V98466~Lady Makbet Mitsenskovo Uezda~theladyconsents]] literally translates to Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
