Sakari Kijavainen directs this engaging comedy about a burnt-out fire fighter looking for redemption and a new direction. Jesse (Taisto Reimaluoto) is a middle-aged fireman who lives alone in a small apartment in the city. One day he saves a bunch of kindergarten kids from a schoolhouse blaze. He is instantly branded a hero and made the toast of the town, which is disconcerting for Jesse as he is the low-key, self-effacing type. Because of this, he makes a complete fool of himself at the awards ceremony, resulting in a prolonged vacation from his duties. With his newfound free time he decides to look up his estranged father who lives in the suburbs. He also runs into his ex-girlfriend, who runs a phone sex operation under the moniker Lusty Terki, and her nubile teenage daughter -- who may or may not be his child. This film was screened at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
