In 1978, Isaac B. Singer was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. He was a gifted writer who had over 40 volumes of short stories, novels, plays and other writings published. Singer once said he viewed himself as a "Yiddish writer." He had left Europe to escape Hitler and arrived in America with almost nothing.
