Impossible Object Details

FULL SYNOPSIS

Story of a Love Story may well be the least-known of John Frankenheimer's films. Filmed in France, the story concerns highly imaginative author [[Performer~P4517~Alan Bates~alanbates]]. Though happily married, [[Performer~P4517~Bates~alanbates]] enters into an affair with [[Performer~P62922~Dominique Sanda~dominiquesanda]]. Somehow, the whole experience seems unreal. Could [[Performer~P62922~Sanda~dominiquesanda]] be merely a character in one of [[Performer~P4517~Bates~alanbates]]' novels, conjured up out of boredom? We won't reveal the answer here; let us just offer our congratulations to [[Performer~P90382~Frankenheimer~johnfrankenheimer]] for so stylishly breaking away from his standard "message" mode (as exemplified in [[Feature~V31268~The Manchurian Candidate~themanchuriancandidate]] and [[Feature~V43837~Seven Days in May~sevendaysinmay]]). Story of a Love Story was originally released as Impossible Object. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
