While blackface comedy would be considered appalling today, in the 1920s it was a staple in motion pictures. Even Oliver Hardy (who would team up with Stan Laurel to create one of the most famous comedy duos of all time) played in blackface a couple of times, in Honorable Mr. Buggs and in this two-reeler. Wealthy Billy Smith (John T. Murray) buys the Hope Diamond, in spite of its reputation for bringing bad luck.
