Extraordinary Measures

Synopsis

Inspired by an incredible true story, the CBS Films docudrama portrays one father's desperate quest to save his children from succumbing to a rare life-threatening genetic disorder. Working-class father John Crowley (Brendan Fraser) is finally on the fast track to corporate success when his two young children, Megan and Patrick, are diagnosed with Pompe disease -- a condition that prevents the body from breaking down sugar. In time, it disables the heart and the muscles, ultimately resulting in death. With the support of his wife, Aileen (Keri Russell), John ditches his career and teams with unconventional specialist Dr. Robert Stonehill (Harrison Ford) to found a bio-tech company and develop a cure in time to save the lives of Megan and Patrick. As Dr. Stonehill works tirelessly to prove the theories that made him the black sheep of the medical community, a powerful bond is forged between the two unlikely allies. Still, their greatest struggle is yet to come. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Teaser Trailer: Faster, Starring Dwayne Johnson

CBS Films hasn't exactly been setting theaters on fire; the company has released Extraordinary Measures and The Back-Up Plan. The company is going for a much more action-oriented appeal with Faster, which stars Dwayne Johnson as a guy out for revenge after being released from prison. The first...continued

    Blu-ray Review: Extraordinary Measures

'Extraordinary Measures' feels like a Lifetime Channel drama. It's never really engaging, but just floats around on the surface, never really showing us the anguish families with terminally ill children......continued

Spin-ematical: New on DVD and Blu-ray for 5/18

Invictus "Very solid, very earnest, and very, very earthbound," is what I wrote in part to describe Clint Eastwood's drama about the efforts of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) to utilize the national sport of rugby to help unite the deeply divided South Africa in the 1990s. Matt Damon co-stars as...continued

Weekend Box Office: 'Dragon' Wins a Slow Week

Last week, I wrote that Dreamworks' How to Train Your Dragon had bested the debut of Kick-Ass by a fraction of a million dollars. When the final numbers came out on Monday afternoon, it had turned out that the newcomer edged out the popular animated film by roughly the same amount. This weekend, I...continued

Confirmed: Harrison Ford Joins Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens'

I think it's safe to say that many of us who worshiped Harrison Ford in the 1980s and 1990s have been a little disappointed with his output in recent years. The man of Crossing Over and Extraordinary Measures isn't really the man you loved for two decades solid, is it? (We aren't going to talk...continued
