Eisenheim the Illusionist - The Illusionist
The Illusionist's release date came at too close a proximity to Christopher Nolan's The Prestige for it to be anything other than a magician-movie underdog. But that doesn't necessarily make it a bad film, especially from a magical standpoint.
Rather than harness his powers of illusion to get back at a rival magician, Edward Norton's Eisenheim the Illusionist uses magic to hook up with a lady high above his social station. To do so, he must fake her death, frame it on her betrothed, villainous lover, and escape unfollowed. With the aid of some fancy special effects and slight of hand, he's able to pull it off.
