8 Great...Mortality Comedies

Sep 26, 2011 Comments

In this side-splitting British farce, brothers John Mills and Ralph Richardson are the two surviving members of a tontine — a pledge in which participants invest money, with the last person standing collecting all of it. When relatives think one of the brothers is dead, they go to outrageous lengths to pretend he’s still alive, and a bizarrely intricate string of misunderstandings and complications ensues. Boasting an all-star cast of British comic talent (including Michael Caine, Peter Sellers, Dudley Moore, and Peter Cook), The Wrong Box found the humor at lugging corpses around decades before Weekend at Bernie’s showed up.
