Our 7 Favorite Movie Psychopaths

Anthony Hopkins’ depiction of Thomas Harris’ sinister Dr. Lecter continues to be the cinematic exemplar for madness. What’s so unsettling about Hannibal Lecter is how this brutal butcher, this ravenous cannibal, is also so polite and insightful. He may murder and eat people, but he’s far scarier simply staring at Clarice from the other side of the glass and subtly picking away at her guarded psyche until he is firmly embedded in her brain. Even before you see him commit a single evil act, we’re sold on how much the rest of the world fears Hannibal; you don’t get muzzled and strapped to a dolly for jaywalking.
