In the 1980s, hackers and video games were the next big things, leading Hollywood to give us WarGames, which is a movie about a hacker trying to download video games that aren’t even out yet. With a little Sherlock Holmes work, and an easy-to-guess password, young Matthew Broderick soon finds himself playing what he thinks is an unreleased game called "Global Thermonuclear War." As it turns out, it’s a highly sophisticated simulation for the WOPR computer that controls the U.S. nuclear arsenal. Whoops. The only real winning move is not to play the game, which the computer learns by playing tic-tac-toe.
