Knowing that your days are numbered becomes an incentive for many people to change their lives. But what happens if you try to change, and then it turns out you’re not dying after all? That’s what happens to George Simmons (Adam Sandler), a super-successful star of inane comedies whose brush with terminal illness drives him to try to reconnect with his old girlfriend Laura (Leslie Mann), who has long since married someone else. This Judd Apatow comedy allegedly dialed down the subplot about George dying after early audiences balked, but it still manages to find what’s funny about being told that the end is near.
