Who says distance has to be measured in miles? Toss in the fourth dimension, and here you’ve got two lovers separated by the passing of years. Christopher Reeve plays a contemporary (1980) playwright who becomes smitten with a woman in an old photograph and hypnotizes himself to return to 1912 to meet her. It turns out she’s an actress (Jane Seymour), but her possessive manager (Christopher Plummer) will do just about anything to keep her from abandoning her career for love. The schmaltz gets laid on pretty thick, but it’s understandable why some people are so smitten with this romance-across-the-ages that they make regular pilgrimages to the Michigan hotel where it was filmed.
