Shirley MacLaine as Martha
Back in the day it was different. Much different. And worse. You could make a film about lesbians but not say the word. And it never ended well. So forgive this one for being a serious bummer, but for a good old-fashioned dose of ice-cold history, check out Shirley MacLaine as the tragic teacher whose life is destroyed when her tightly concealed love for Audrey Hepburn (can you blame her for that one?) is turned into an everything-wrecking rumor by an especially rotten, vindictive kid. It’s a pre-Gay Pride classic of misery.
