Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon
Like Dali, Kaufman was a big ham and his public persona was always an act. It must have been a point for Milos Foreman to make this movie primarily a series of reenactments of performances we’ve all had a chance to see on television. Whether or not it’s intended as a statement about celebrity biopics, the re-creation of the comedian’s bits are spot on, and Carrey manages to also display some additional dramatic chops in between. Worthy of an Oscar nom, he at least won the Golden Globe.
